As fred says, they will give you the bill and then you have to prove you don`t owe it.

Those figures don’t surprise me, Hacienda are ruthless and Spanish law does normally require proof from the innocents that they are innocent, as opposed to our system in the UK.

Having suffered from that part of the Spanish law for years, an expensive exercise, I’m sympathetic to any measure to reduce the tax liability.

The Spanish system is like the tote at a race course in the UK. There are 40 counters to take in money, and only one to pay it out.

The OP seems to have been successful at remaining an invisible man for the past ten years, I would advise him to keep the bandages off.
