Default seat cordoba

we have a seat cordoba 1999 on which the turbo may apparently have conked. The garage have said this part is approximately 800 euros. Does this sound about right or we being misinformed and charged additional as business is bad?

I had the turbo replaced on my Volvo V40 in January. The Volvo dealership wanted 1,500 euros to replace it. I finally had it replaced by an independent garrage for 1,000 euros but I also had to replace the water pump at another 250 euros. The price for the turbo was 650 euros (part only) in the end so I think your quote is about right. A turbocharger is a specially engineered part.

turbos aren't cheap, i should know, ive blown enough up through my car playing days!

Sounds about right, and could be more if the blades have gone through the engine, but i expect its just your seals worn

Turbos are extremely vulnerable in dry, dusty conditions. Spain isn't the best country to run a turbo driven engine.

Straight forward Direct Injection diesel engines are powerful and efficient enough without a turbo. My advice; don't buy a turbo powered car for use in Spain. Never buy a second hand turbo car without a full check from a fully qualified mechanic. Could be a very expensive mistake.

Hi all thank you for all your advice. The diagnosis is good and the bill 185 euros the turbo is fine it was some other bit that had conked and was causing us to be an embarassment to our friends when following in convoy up hill. hurrah!!!!
