Are seat belts compulsory in Spain ?

Hi everyone

Are`seat belts required by law all the time in Spain or the islands ?

If for instance i was say driving along very slowly down along the beach front with me Best of Beach Boys blasting , would i need to buckle up ?

Or are` they required even if your stationary ?

or are they required above a certain speed say over 20mph or anything like that ?

and would you have a on the spot fine or would they be happy if i did them a pirate copy of me Beach Boys Greatest Hits ?

advice needed please ?

You really are bored arent you!

Yes unfortunately they are now legal in spain all the time you are in the car with the ignition on.

If passengers dont have theirs on then THEY lose points from their licenses, not you (much better idea)

Still not many speed cameras around so thats ok.:lol:

What if the passenger doesn't have a driving license? Does the driver get double points? :confused:

So if the passenger hasnt a license they are` safe then lol

Of the topic for a sec ;

I dont think you need seat belts in modern cars for drivers anyway , airbags front and sides etc.. i never wear them principle i am a rebel ... had 1 smash at 90mph on the M25 in the wet , slid into the fast lane crash barrier , no seatbelt didnt even get a scratch , just braced and held the wheel thought " oh well pete thats your lot , now you stuffed " ground along the barrier slid to a halt and didnt even get a scratch ..

Bet it was a big car though ... I wrote of an XJ6 via a tree a lamp post and a bus shelter some years ago. Just opened the door and walked away. Didn't have a belt on either. Might not have been so lucky in a fiesta ;)

My son and girlfriend would've been dead today had they not been wearing their seatbelts. I never used to wear one, thought it constricted me, but I sure as hell wear one now, even if we're going to the other side of town.

Was a passenger in OH car's. stationary waiting for our turn at round about, the seat belt was rubbing my neck so I pulled it way from my neck to re-position it, local polica appeared from other side of the road, going ten to the dozen waving his hands all over the place, boiled down to if I see you doing that again you will get fined 350 euros for not wearing seat belt correctly.:eek: nearly kaced me pants!

Also because I am a mind of useless info, did you know that the same law applies here regarding booster seats for children under 11 years or 1.5m.
