Schools in estapona

Moving to Duquesa. I have 2 children ages 8 and 9. I have found a school for my daughter but can't seem to find one that fits for my son who is autistic but not severe. I am worried along with the language barrier he won't get the support he needs. Does anyone have any info that will help me. Thanks

My friend is a school psychologist and she has told me that when a child is enrolled that may have difficulties she has to assess them in order to decide whether they can cope in the ordinary classroom, need help within the class, be placed in a "special" class or a combination of these. For example she was telling me about a child who manages reasonably well in the class but has some lessons with a specialist teacher in order to ensure that he maintains his standards.

Sorry forgot to say that this in the Valencian Province but it is possibly true for other areas.

Thank you Rosemary.
That has cleared a lot of my worries.

In my area they are very good at providing exactly what an autistic child needs in order to gain the most out of their education, they are quick to acknowledge these needs and also change the provision when necessary. For example if a child is offered the a low level of service but it is found after a short while that this is not sufficient the psychologist reviews and recommends any changes that are deemed necessary.

So hopefully he will have his needs met in the area that you have chosen to live.

My advice is to contact a few schools and ask the relevant questions.

I rang them up and they asked me to ring back at 12 when someone could speak to me who had good English. We have friends out there so they have helped us to sort stuff. When I go il have a few weeks off with the children to settle in and then they will start school. We will visit the school and settle in slowly. My husband will work in gib in the gaming industry as that's one of the biggest forms of employment. We're looking to go out in September. My husband will come out a few months later with a van with our things.

Thanks a lot for your reply, this is very helpful!!
I did personal message you as had a few questions.
My husband will be doing the same thing and more than likely the gaming industry too. How far in advance did you speak to the school about enrolling?

Ahh that's really handy having friends out there to help, i've looked up the area and prices with renting and looks very reasonable and nice.

What are are you living in now?
Thanks again
Carla

Yea renting is quite cheap, it gets more expensive though the closer you get to gib. We live in Huddersfield at the moment. I spoke to them last week and they said to let them know when we have registered with patron. To contact them when I go over. Where we looked it's about 450/500 euros for a 3 bed and it's lovely with a pool and all gated for security

Thanks for this it's been really helpful with you going through exactly the same as us in the same area.. also with 2 children aswell. Have you sorted your sons schooling yet? So you don't officially have to register with the school until you're over there?

Sounds a bit full on but it would be lovely if we could keep in touch and see how your move goes, how yours are getting on at school (especially if mine end up going to the same school!!) and your husband getting a job etc. Is it your daughter that is 8 or is she 9?

Thanks again
Carla

My son is 8 and my daughter is 9 on Thursday. From what we have been told we need to register out there first and then they can start school. I'd let them settle first and then introduce the school. When are you thinking of going and where do you live now.
