Sat Nav legal or not
Hi are sat navs that tell you that you are in a speed camera or mobile camera zone legal in Spain and France.
Or is it just special detectors that come into the new traffic laws I am going on hol;iday to UK soon and I do not want to be caught out  |
Re: Sat Nav legal or not
Illegal in France.

Legal in Spain. It is radar detectors or jammers that are illegal.
Traffico publish the location of all their fixed radars on their website. |
Re: Sat Nav legal or not
Thanks Fred for your info much appreciated. Also appreciated for advice on UK Spanish plates :fingerscrossed:

Re: Sat Nav legal or not
Sat navs are legal because they are letting you know you are entering an area where cameras may be. They MAY be there, not that they ARE there or even working!
Detectors are illegal because they actually warn you that a camera is there and that it is 'live' The detector has the ability to jam the microwaves that are used for measuring speed. I do believe that Germany is actively seeking to ban even the warnings on a sat nav. |

Still fine you though ;)

Re: Sat Nav legal or not
Have you any evidence that Trafico have fined anyone for displaying official radar sites on their navigator?

Fair comment. They do seem to make up the rules as they go.
Fined for leaving your lights on after leaving a tunnel - yes it happened! |

Hola
I recently drove from Spain, through France to England. My sat-nav tells me where the Spanish cameras are BUT not where the French ones are as it is illegal in France! But started telling me again once in England. Davexf |

Re: Sat Nav legal or not
I think many people do. There is nothing in Spanish traffic law to say that you cannot keep your lights on.
The only way the police could take issue with it is if they were on main beam but it would be pretty difficult to prove that you were dazzling an oncoming car in broad daylight! However, it did happen. If it had been me, I would have challenged it through my insurance who would almost certainly have got it annulled. |
Re: Sat Nav legal or not
So if they fine you in a car for having dipped beam on outside tunnels in daylight what about motorbikes most modern bikes you can't turn off dipped lights? Also I thought EU law now says all new cars must have running lights on at all times OK not the dipped beam but lights? I know the tunnels you refer to Lyric and as you say one is so short pointless turning lights on apart from sign saying you must.

Isn't the square blue sign a reminder not a command, a command being a white shape with a red rim, or is I wrong again ?
