They started off on the wrong foot in the UK, so have to try and make up for it somehow.
Little chance of a deal like that in Spain, where they are still looked on as one of the safest bets, and are probably still picking up business from the wobbly cajas.

A lot of people are not happy with them in the UK ,see www.moneysavingexpert.com , guess they have the attitude they are doing you a favour letting you bank with them like here in Spain.
