Default sanitas medical insurance

Hi everyone,

Just had a quote from sanitas for my non-eu wife for medical insurance $65 euro's a month.

Does this sound about right? Anyone else got any advice ?

Thanks

Sounds very cheap to me. I would check the level of cover provided.

Could I ask her age please, and if she has any existing conditions, also is there an excess or co payments and is hospital cover included? It does seem a bit light, and if there is a residency need, it has to be the full cover equivalent to the Spanish NHS.We had Sanitas, I would also be sure to confirm you have a Doctor with Sanitas within a reasonable distance.

Good advice, check out your local clinics first to see which health insurance firms they accept before signing up to one.

I'll check to confirm there is a doctor close, she's 30 with no medical conditions. I'm not sure about excess or co payments and is hospital cover included.

Thanks

Someone also mentioned this on another forum.
Children under 18 years are covered in Spain...public health system. No need for any insurance for kids.

Is this true can anyone clarify.

Thanks

Even when there is a local clinic / hospital, Sanitas may (and often do) send you to another which is cheaper.

In theory - yes.

I say in theory because we arrived prior to 2012 and not only would they not cover us, but they also would NOT cover our 3 children. Went to the consulate and even they couldn't sort it for us.

I that case, it may well be the right premium I think. All that remains is to confirm the hospital cover / co payments etc. If you intend using it for 'residency',make sure its acceptable cover for that purpose, the goalposts are still moving, some places do not accept co payment / excesses. Best to enquire whats required a little while before you apply. I only mentioned the Doctor cover as we live in rural Granada and our original local Sanitas Doctor retired, leaving us with an 80 mile round trip to the next Sanitas approved Health Centre.

All the very best with your plans in any event!
