Re: Safety in Spain ?

A good philosophy ;) However, please humour me  burglars won't know that you do not have expensive stuff, until they have broken in and therefore already started 'trashing' the place and, depending on who the burglars are, or more importantly, what they intend to do with 'your' stuff when they have 'snaffled' it, it may not need to be of high value, just enough to sell on or exchange for their day's 'fix' :o However, a good quality door lock and central locking pins on Windows and patio doors, which are really quite inexpensive, is usually enough to deter the 'opportunists' and before anyone asks, no I have no active interest, financial or otherwise in 'home security' products

Agreed, but as you said, if they want to break in they will. Therefore, it's only worth taking all sensible precautions such as a good lock with pins, and not building a fortress.

Even if i had loads of expensive stuff it's not really a problem if all is insured.

What i fear most about burglary is the inconvenience and any emotional impact, although the 3 break-ins at my UK home didn't cause much of the latter.

At the risk of this sounding more like posts from a 'mutual admiration society' I agree with you. Whilst insurance is there to cover some, if not all, of any physical loss, as you say, it does not cover the shock and emotional factors, the knowledge that someone has invaded your home, even trashed it, before then stealing items, some of which may not have a high financial value but invaluable sentimental values. Doing something physical to protect your property is much like Insurance, it can offer a bit of 'peace of mind' knowing that you have done as much as you can in the hope that it will be enough.
