Safety in Spain.
Ten years ago on Easter Friday we got broken into by three Algerians and things got really hairy. I still have some scars to remind me.
The Doberman who wasn't here ten years ago, and wasn't born ten years ago, has been patrolling all day long on high alert, which is weird. I don't encourage him to bark, normally, but on this anniversary I don't mind. Ten years ago, we had the choice, leave this unsafe place and return to the UK, or get a Doberman and build the walls up. It was touch and go, but checking the swimming pool earlier today, it's at 18 degrees, going up rapidly. I go in at 25 degrees and stay in it for the summer. The dhobe has fallen asleep on my bed now, so we must be safe this Easter. |

So if you wake up in the morning with a new skylight above your bed and a truckful of roof tiles hi-tailing it down the road leaving a comatosed Doberdog in it's wake, you'll know you've had night-time visitors . |
Re: Safety in Spain.
HBG, that sounds like a horrendous event and one I hope that never re occurs for you. You have my heart felt wish that you all stay safe.

We're OK. We have an attack Yorkie.

Re: Safety in Spain.
our dog barks if someone parks in the street outside and slams the doors
and if the door bell rings on the television and if he hears a cat meowing 4 streets away house hunting the other day and he took a fancy to the leather boots of the estate agent perhaps we need advice on feeding him once in a while ;) |
Re: Safety in Spain.
Ten years ago it was like the Wild West around here, but it's much safer now because the police numbers have quadrupled and we have a very active neighbourhood watch. The downside is that my street used to have pretty ornate walls all along it, now they're all about two metres high.
And we've all got dogs, there's a Yorkie next door but he's got two Alsatians for company. |
Re: Safety in Spain.
Hi
I´ve got two pedenco dogs; one hears the slightest sound and runs at 90 mph through the dog flap and goes and barks at it. In some ways I hate it BUT I can´t / won´t stop her as it tells everyone to go elsewhere to steal. It is costing me a fortune in dog flaps; I´ve just bought another one, this time aluminium surround with a flexible plastic door. I let you know if it lasts longer than the three months I normally get  Davexf |

But they can hear a vehicle coming up the track from a km away and start barking, so I always know when visitors are on their way, wanted or otherwise ... |
Re: Safety in Spain.
I didn't know what a Podenco was so I Googled it. What lovely dogs. With ears like that I bet they could hear someone coming 3 km away. My 2 dogs are always on the alert - unfortunately the older one would just curl up on the chair whilst the other would lick a burglar to death. They are lovely though and I would not change them.

There are 3 distinct breeds of Podenco, though according to the article all of the hunting dogs are commonly interbred, so in many cases distinguishing the different strains will likely be very difficult. http://www.occupyforanimals.org/hunt...-podencos.html Not for the squeamish ! |
Re: Safety in Spain.
It is off topic I know but anyone who can inflict such pain and suffering to another living thing does not deserve to live. No man woman nor child should be excused from this behaviour on any grounds.

Re: Safety in Spain.
I have a white husky who the villagers' call El Lobo Blanco. He is allowed to answer our door whenever the gas-men call. Quite successfuly in fact. A dog does give some peace of mind, I know I can sleep soundly at night when El Lobo Blanco patrols the hall-way. Long live El Lobo.

Re: Safety in Spain.
Has anybody looked at the stars tonight? I've never seen them to shine so bright. I'm not particularly religious, but it seems they've come out for Easter.
