S1 query

Hello everyone .
I’ve been searching the Internet for a answer to my query and found nothing at all.
My partner is a UK citizen, with passport. He’s now of pensionable age but due to the recent law change he doesn’t get anything as he’s just a few months short of the ten yr minimum now.
The money isn’t the problem ( although we feel robbed) he needs an S1 to access healthcare here in Spain. Everywhere I look for info it just talks about pensioners ... nothing about what must be a problem for a lot of people...
so is the S1 for pensionable AGE people or not?
If he stays in the UK he gets free healthcare as normal, so how do we transfer that here... hope that’s not to jumbled .

It does say on both the yougov and NHS sites that you must be in receipt of an exportable UK pension or benefit? Does your partner have contributions towards pension with another country. The fact that he gets healthcare in UK doesn't really matter because that is simply based on him being currently resident there.
If you read the link it explains also there is a number at bottom of pensioner entitlement for overseas health team I would phone them and get answer direct.

Re: S1 query

Sadly most of his work related pension is from the Island of Guernsey, he had almost ten yrs in Uk so we get nothing at all.
I’m working here in Spain, so don’t have an S1 for about 7 yrs yet....trying to get his residency before Brexit ...

Re: S1 query

My understanding is that pensioners refers to people who receive a pension rather than referring to age.

It would be worth his while phoning the overseas health team to ensure you are getting accurate information. Could you not also see if he can make sufficient voluntary contributions to take him over the 10 year point?

We were under the impression that once he’s reached pension age ( and he has) then it’s too late....
Yes going to call them tomorrow , just wondered if anyone else had similar experiences.. and could have advised. X

Re: S1 query

It all seems to depend on your partner's age, this link gives examples of how far you can go back which basically seems to be 6 years. Again quick link attached also worth phoning and asking as they say shy bairns get nowt.
I am assuming he has no state pension from Guernsey? And if he has that doesn't provide any exportable health care?
This link refers to UK

Hi Scot47im sorry I don’t understand why you posted the link? His pension from Guernsey isn’t the question... it was about a UK S1.. the general opinion is as I feared that he won’t get one...
Bobd yes he has a pension from Guernsey but they are non EU so it’s a problem

Re: S1 query

Yes Guernsey is not in the EU

I posted that link because I thought he was getting no pension at all.

No, he has his basic pension from there but it doesn’t help up get him into Spain, I was just hopi g that as he has a british passport and was paying in although not long enough now he could have had the S1.
But it seems not.

I wouldn't give up all hope yet make the phone calls. It may be that 1 years voluntary contributions gives him the very basic UK state pension which allows him to obtain an S1. Which in saving cost of private healthcare is well worth a few phone calls. Good luck

Another thought lo x
I’m working, paying tayes etc, could he come as my dependant? My reading of the rules suggests as my spouse or de facto spouse that he can?
Thoughts please. Sorry to be a pain.
