S1 Benefits ?

Been in Lanzarote 10 years and always had ASSSA health cover. It's good as I have all the health checks every year.

This year I was 66 so can now claim the S1 benefits. I still want to keep some of the ASSSA benefits to suit me

On the S1 malarky, do they give you the annual checks ?
I have colonoscopy as required, Urology with ultra-sound and heart specialist check on treadmiill

If so then I can reduce my ASSSA cover and save about €800 a year.

And if I do get the S1, does it cover my partner who is only 60?

Neither of us ever worked here

Thanks in advance :)

You will need to ask DWP to add your partners name on the S1 as your dependant.

Re: S1 Benefits ?

The S1 simply enables you to enroll in the Spanish public health system and benefit from it to the same extent as a Spanish citizen. Of itself it does not entitle you to any particular treatment only that prescribed by your assigned doctor. If he/she determines the regular checks you metion to be necessary then he/she can order them.

Regarding your 'partner', whether or not DWP will grant her an S1 will be dependent on the precise nature of your relationship but just living with you will not be sufficient. On that basis anyone entitled to an S1 could in theory take a complete stranger off the street and, by claiming they were their 'partner', secure free healthcare for them!

Yes, when we lived in Spain my wife was entitled to an S1, and she added me, her husband, to the S1 so I got treated in the same way even though I was only 59, this was in 2004 so her retirement was at 60, but I AFAIK had to be her husband, not sure if a Civil Partnership would be the same.
