Default Restaurant Recommendations near Malaga Airport

Hi all,

My parents are coming for a visit, but they dont land till 9pm. By the time I get them to where I live (la linea) its going tobe about 11pm. So I was thinking of stopping not far from the airport.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good restaurant (not expensive, but good) Which is quite accessable off the ole A7.

Fuengirola has some good cheap places, down fish alley etc, but getting in there, getting parked etc.. then being harassed by lucky luckys.. just probably not their idea of fun.. But then you also get those reall expensive ones where its like 20 euros a meal.. nah sod that. I know some good ventas up near Casares but its going to be like nearly 11pm by the time I get there. So im wanting somewhere nice, not bad price and easy off the coast road near to the airport!

Thanks all

There is a Spanish restaurant right near the airport, St. Julian area, does not start serving till late evening, I have never been but highly recommended by others, if interested I will send you directions, but will have to wait till Friday when I see the guys who go there.

I'd be interested in that one too - preferably not food for difficult Brits though! I've always thought St Julian would be a place to stop but I'm usually alone or with 9yo and they seem rather 'male' bars!!!!!!!! so often end up having something in Leroys.... not quite the same

It's not a personal recommendation, because I don't know the place, but for 'difficult brits' - Plaza Mayor (Shopping mall, cinema, restaurantes & bars) is v close to the airport. Surely there'd be something there?

There's loads of choice - I'd forgotten P.Mayor! - from okish Spanish to Kebab to Pizza to McD, to just about everything, actually providing you don't want haute cuisine. Tapas, usual Andaluz stuff, wide range. Not sure how early they open but then that isn't the issue if I remember the OP's request! - mind you it does get rather busy.

Definitely Plaza Mayor, just turn off at Ikea & turn right at the roundabout & you can't miss it. plenty of decent shops too to keep you amused.

If your parents' flight doesn't land until 9pm, it will probably be nearer 10 by the time they have cleared the airport and you have arrived at Plaza Mayor - would that not be a bit late to eat for most British people? You might find they would prefer to have their main meal at lunchtime before leaving, and a sandwich on the plane.

Good point! I know everyone is different but when I travel I just want to get to my destination and freshen up.

Wouldn't they have been better flying into Gibraltar?

I wouldnt say they are that difficult really.. Thanks for plaza mayor suggestions.. but i was thinkin something a bit more traditional rather than a shopping centre. Plaza mayor is also kinda in the wrong direction. But i appreciate everyones recommendations

Heather wheres that place in San Julian? That sounds good.

I don't think anyone wanted to be unfair about your folks, but you did say 'normalish' food difficult brits would like!..... define 'normalish' and 'difficult'!! Could mean won't eat anything apart from sausage egg and chips .... and yes, someone rather close to me is like that or I'd rather not eat pelotas and sheep's eyes if there's an r in the month but any other time it's fine ..... which is it??

(nb I'm just as keen to hear about San Julian for reasons outlined earlier in the thread!)

I have heard good reports about that one too. Chef used to be at Silks sounds a good recommendation. Nice surroundings too.

If you take a left turn where the San Miguel factory is and carry straight on you will come to the San julian one. Only had tapas there but it's good. Wouldn't recommend it for your purpose when you have a long journey ahead.
