Resident in UK

Does anyone know how you declare yourself resident in UK? Already been in the UK for three months (returning expat from EU).

I would tell the DWP in Newcastle - they "sign you out" when you apply for an E121 etc so they ought to be the people to welcome you home with open arms!

Thank you Fred, that seems sensible, although I will await a reply from the CAB before doing anything.

Been back a week, already got phone, WiFi, application for free bus passes, signed on with GP, haven't needed to declare as resident, just shown rental agreement to prove a permanent move. Have changed addresses with pensions authorities

Re: Resident in UK

We have been here three months, just moved back into our house which we have always had (where our son lives) which obviously has all the services set up. Some of the bills are still in our names.

I don't get my pension yet until January and my husband is not going to be resident until next year. So no benefits to alter.

Can I just go and sign on with a GP - what proof will they need? I could show them utility/credit card bills at that address, we have UK bank accounts , have always kept the UK dentist and are registered as non-resident voters.

I can prove I have been here three months because I have taken out a new bank acount since I have been here, registered to my UK address, and also I have renewed my pasport.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Resident in UK

Just heard from CAB - they say as long as I don't need any State benefits I don't need to do anything in particular, just register with a Dr and stay.

Although I think I will need to let the DWP know because of claiming my State Pension in October to receive it in January.

Sad that you and your husband will be living in different countries until next year.

Good Luck

It isn't as bad as it sounds, he is in the UK with me now, but he will go back for a couple of months and even if I'm UK resident I can still have a holiday for a month!

And by next year, we're talking about March-April.

So not too bad really.

we did, they didnt ask for any proof that we had been in the UK for any length of time, all they asked for were our NHS cards ( so they could update them)

Right, thanks, I haven't got mine but I rang the receptionist today and she said I could fill a form in.

That's all we had to do, just had to put our NHS number on form and fill in details, we had lost one NHS number, but they gave us the telephone number to find it out.

I laughed when I looked at that list. It's hit a new low in useless government advice. F'rinstance (paraphrased):
Coming back to the UK? Don't forget to sell your house before you set off
Who writes this rubbish? Was it someone's GCSE project?
