Someone has just told me that they have obtained residencia in Spain but they are actually UK residents.

Is this allowed? What would be the advantages? Am I missing something or is this a bit dodgy?

If you spend over 6 months in Spain you are obliged to become residents...not that anyone would know if you didn't.
Becoming residents has financial benefits and you are residents but classed as Foreigners.
