Default Renting An Apartment Or Studio In Malaga, Spain For 5 Months?

I'm in a fortunate position where I can work remotely and want to do it for a few months from Malaga in Spain.

I would like to rent a small studio or apartment in Malaga, Spain for 5-6 months. My budget is pretty low at less than 500 euros per month.

I have no idea what I'm doing, and I wonder if anyone here owns such an apartment, or can point me in the right direction. Any advice or help would be gratefully appreciated. Even if someone can suggest a good estate agent or website that would be useful.

By the way I'm not looking for some holiday style letting in the middle of nowhere with swimming pools etc. I just want an ordinary place in town at a reasonable price which is reasonably nice, has internet, and is near to shops.

Cheers,
Jimbo

Malaga's a huge place! There are some nice parts and some not so nice parts (lots of big scruffy tennament blocks) Google your requirements (rental in Málaga) and see what comes up at what prices! Then narrow down your search by whether you want to be in a busy area, near the sea, near the port, near the airport?????

You say less than £500, I'm not sure what you'd get fot that. Is sharing not an option? I see lots of rooms are at least €200-250. There are lots of rooms for rent, have a look here.

You could get a studio/apartment, no problems, for £500 - I don't know if it has a website, but the Anunciado, ad paper, is very good because it separates properties in different areas so you can be selective without it causing too much of a geographical headache. Good luck. nb they also do flat/house shares!

I would imagine 99% of all properties would already have internet in Málaga City. Certainly a phone line, so you should be ok. However, if you're starting form scratch - good old telefonica can drag their heels, to say the least LOL

That's one of the reasons I thought sharing might be ideal, most of the adverts I looked at specified they have internet.

Another option (if your accommodation doesn't have internet connected) would be to use wifi or a dongle. However this depends on how much you'll need to use the internet.

I'm guessing that as the OP said he can work remotely, it would mean heavy internet use. No knowledge of dongles, but aren't they expensive for heavy use?

I'm also looking to do the same thing in the next couple of months. I have my own business and i can work remotely as well.

Coincidentally, my budget is £500 too, but that has to be everything, including food and travel. Based on what ive seen so far, its seems doable but maybe im living in a fantasy.

Would love to hear what you find

I think you'd have to keep a tight budget, but it may just about be do-able?? It depends on you and your lifestyle tho! Take away the cost of your rental and then ask yourself if you could live on what you're left with in the UK. Because, apart from rental, the cost of living in the Málaga region is pretty similar IMO!

Hi,

Thanks for replying

OK well, im not a heavy spender at all. I just need to be able to pay for food and internet. Other than that, im not planning to spend much on entertainment or leisure, so i guess still do-able?

Also, if im near the sea, then i wouldnt need to spend much on travel either cos the sea would be enough for my need to get out and about.

I dont know how much food and internet would cost me over the month, but with these apartments is electricity and rates etc extra or inclusive?

What are your thoughts please?
Do any of you know anyone out there already? Or are you yourself out there?
Im planning a quick holiday in the next 2 weeks to Malaga anyhow, just to check the place out.

My OH just returned from a visit to Logrono viewing a property were interested in.

She found the prices in the shops have increased since we last visited in 08.

Shewas goin to bring back some Jamon, but it was more expensive than my local Makro in the UK.

I don`t know about shopping bills, the duty free in the airport was high though.

I wear Black XS smelly, the airport wanted 36.00 Euros for the bottle I pay £28.00 for in the high street.

The estate agent though was very optimistic about the Spanish economy, I guess he would be.

Rentals in the area she visited was above 450 Euros a month.

Hi Chulo,

Was that rental for 2 persons? or per person?
Rates inclusive or extra?

Im really not a big spender at all, so even if shops are more expensive than here, if its not too huge a difference, its not likely to affect me too much.

Also, does anyone have a link for rentals with a website thats in English?
That link looks good but i dont speak a word of spanish.

Thank you.
