Renewing European Driving Licence in Spain.
Clinic have just advised me that my current driving licence expires on Monday.
I`m 74 and thought it was next year when I`m 75.
So I have to go for the Medical Examination tomorrow to see if I`m still fit to
drive.
Presuming I pass the medical examination what is the next step?
Do I have to go to DGT in Malaga to renew the licence?
All help and advice greatly appreciated.

I had to renew mine just over a year ago when I was approaching 70. Instead of having to go to Bilbao "Trafico" I was told I could have the medical in Durango, a small town of 20,000 people and my nearest large centre of a DGT registered doctor.
The medical was really an eye & hearing test as well as a test on a sort of "video" game to check my driving reactions. I was then given a new plastic licence.
Once you reach 70, you have to renew your licence every 5 years. Not a bad thing really.
You could check to see if there's a similar one in Fuengirola.

Many of the centres will now do the whole process for you, for additional remuneration naturally.

I was trying to remember if they did when I was there five years ago but memory let me down.
Many Thanks. That saves me worrying about having to go to DGT in Malaga.

Yes I did the whole process at my local centre, worth every Euro (but to be honest cannot remember how much they charged) Anything to avoid the DGT office!

The local medical centre do everything including the photos. There is no extra charge for this, it is included in the charge for the medical. The new licence will come in the post about 2 weeks later.
A very painless process.

Hola
I thought after 70 it was every four years (every three year in the UK) - or is my memory faulty?

Re: Renewing European Driving Licence in Spain.
Thank You Very Much Fred. Puts my mind completely at rest. All I have to do now is pass the test!!!
if I remember from 5 years ago my only problem was the hearing test.
It`s a very very quiet buzz and I,m sure I missed a couple.
The co-ordination part too bringing the lines down through the moving lines takes concentration.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks Again.
Davexf We learn something new everyday eh....

It just proves that nothing is standardised throughout Spain.
Here in Sevilla I too have had 3 of these medical tests including my first application for my Spanish licence and have never been asked to do the co-ordination test.

Renewal time can also depend if you have medical problems. My neighbours - he is 81, she is 78 - he has to renew every year and she does it every 3 but they do both have medical issues that are taken into account.
