Removal firms - urgent help needed
Unbelievable!
My removal firm has just added £600 to our move quotation, because some dozy man came round and ignored what I said about what was NOT going!
I even provided him with a comprehensive list of what IS going!
Can anyone recommend any firms in South Yorkshire, as we are moving in 3 months' time and as if it's not stressful enough, looks like we've got to start again, and hope we get our deposit back. Help!!

As to what is not going was one of the planks of our County Court Summons. Again allegations.
Maybe we should compare notes by PM?

rdgs shorthand for regards. Sorry as this matter is before the courts cannot let you have the name of the company
They and ourselves deserve their day in court and it would be unwise to pre-judge the English legal system.

Re: Removal firms - urgent help needed
We used a UK based organisation with a Spanish base and it went horrible wrong.
Then on a move from France to Spain a few years ago we used Silver Fox in Moraira Spain and who have a relationship with a UK company a sort of trans shipping. They moved a car for us as well. It was good (almost) until the 38 tonne could not get down our small road in France! We had to hire a van from the town hall. We also had a quote from Union Jack in Benidorm. Essentially what happens is they take people back to the UK and then their trick is to fill the empty truck with people coming the other way.
In the UK we have of course market leaders removal wise and you get what you pay for. But equally the costs are very high.
On the point you make about items not going we know what you mean. Ours took some stuff which was not included in the deal and we had to pay to take it back to the UK. Hence court.
One thing we have learned is that a schedule of goods to be taken must appear in a written format and with both signs signing the paperwork.
Ours arrived without the paperwork. Then the vehicle was taken back up to the Midlands for an MOT and a new team. The team did not know what was on the back of the lorry so when they arrived in Spain - huge problems and lots of damage! Be careful any damage has to be reported in seven days.
A disaster.

I worked in the International freight business for years and heard loads of problems about removals companies. Often the problem is that the vehicle goes back to a depot or to another loading place to have more effects loaded.
Sometimes even the effects are offloaded to a warehouse until they have enough for a full load.
Unfortunately "you get what you pay for" doesnt always ring true. Some of the BIG international movers have some horror stories also. The trouble is they often subcontract out to teams, so that even when one person has a good experience with a company, it doesnt mean anything because the next person might get a different team or subcontractor

It is to be hoped that your deposit is returned. Did you pay by cheque c/c or direct to their bank account? If the latter pm and I will check with our on-line payments data base and see if it is the same one.
However if your deposit is not returned then go to MoneyonLine it is a Govt agency run out of Northampton County Court. Inexpensive and simple to use and then within days the other side have a summons on their doorstep and have 21days max in which to respond.
If they dispute then as long as they are a limited company you can have it transferred to your nearest County Court so North Yorkshire perhaps Leeds or there must be quite a few near to your home.

They subcontracted the storage to an other.
Their wharehouse went up in flames, she lost everything. The company did not have adequate insurance and went bust.
She got some compensation but of course nothing for the loss of valued personal items and memories.
