Relocating Independent Lawyer required please
Hi to you all.
Newly registered and my first post/request so please be gentle if I am in the wrong place!
Ok briefly my wife and I have decided after much soul searching and endless hours researching mainly through your remarkable forum to retire to Spain.
It is something we have always wanted to do when we became empty nesters.
We are coming over in two weeks just to look at a selection of rural Cortijos in the Velez Rubio/Huercol Overa...Arboleas areas.
We are both in our mid 50`s and I am retired about a year my wife can retire when we are ready to go.
I have a thousand questions and have read your forum for many hours and we are not doing this from a position of nievity as I can see from the various posts and threads that Spain is not the land of milk and honey that some at home believe it may be. I did not realise the amount of beurocracy for one,and I can see that some people could easily be put off.
That said will have I believe sufficient pension and funds and with no requirement to work I am sure we can live quite happily.
I will no doubt be back on here at various times to seek further help from what seem to be in the main really helpful posters.
First question at some point we will require a local lawyer in the area we intend to buy in. I do not wish to use any that the estate agents might suggest and would ask if any of you kind people would recommend such a lawyer in the areas I have mentioned?
Many thanks and hope you can help.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.
BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Lawyers aren't as thorough here as they are in England and don't seem to be as accountable for their mistakes. But they do seem to charge as much! So, even more important that you find one that you trust.
There are Lawyers in Britain who specialise in property purchase abroad and you might find there's one in your town. Another place to look might be Kyero. (Spanish property website) Ask the guy who runs it who is called Martin. By now he must have some recommendations and horror stories since he's been running it about 10 years.

Hi Stuboy...
That`s another option and one we may well take. We will certainly be considering it as people on the forums suggest this is a good way of getting to know an area etc etc..
