Costa del sol has the sunniest weather. The clue is in the name!

That doesnt mean it has the best weather though of course. It was too hot and sunny for me in the summer - 3 months of being uncomfortable. And the winters can be wet and windy

Almeria is probably up at the top when it comes to sunny days, but what's best is different for everyone.

It isn't really a clue -as an area/ country's name may have no bearing on the place itself

I can assure that the country governed from Ankara is not made of Christmas dinner meat!!!

Thanks for your post anyway

The name "Costa del sol" was invented by the Franco government to help market the area to foreign tourists. He gave all the different Costas names

Costa del sol was chosen because it is the area with the most sunny days in Spain

So there you go.

Hola

Costa de la Luz or coast of light; the "clean" sea (Atlantic) - miles of golden sands and reasonable weather all year round

But I am biased as I live there

Costa Almeria wins hands down for sunshine and dry weather. It is a desert region and has desert scenes from Lawrence of Arabia, Clint Eastwood's Spagetti Westerns, Raiders of the Lost Ark etc filmed there. In fact Costa Almeria has the warmest and driest weather of the entire Mediterranean basin.

If you are looking for a resort in Costa Almería, I recommend Mojacar Playa.

But, if the original poster informs us why he/she wants to know we will be able to supply better answers.

Annual Sunshine in Spain - Current Results

Personally I would always sacrifice some sun for some greenery.

The Huelva province/Costa de la Luz which according to your link has the highest average number of hours/days sunshine is actually very green. It is a huge agricultural area and we have often seen their strawberries in our local Sainsburys in the uk.

Kath
That's because it's a lot wetter than Almeria.

Of course, but it shows that you don't have to sacrifice sun to get greenery.

Pretty impressive to be a lot wetter and sunnier at the same time. I guess the rain Huelva does get comes down over a relatively short period?

The greenery could be explained by irrigation as well as rain, along with fertile soil.

I was surprised at the differences on the chart between areas that are relatively close together. Not just the sun but rain as well.

Your thread title and original post could be contradictory to many people.

Maybe you could clarify?
