Default Recommendations for android tv box

Hi,
I am renting a villa in Spain for a few months and am unsure if there is a satellite dish or if it is a smart tv but I wondered how I can watch U.K. TV channels and Netflix on it. Should I buy an amazon fire stick before I go to take with me or an android box - I am not technically minded at all 🤦‍♀️ and wondered what is the easiest option ? Any advice is sincerely appreciated 🙏

Hi,

Ask your rental provider, they should confirm what is available in your rental. You should also ask what connections are on the TV, i.e. does it have HDMI / USB?

Amazon firestick and Now TV box work in Spain but only if you have a decent internet connection.

If you have no internet you may be able to use a mobile MiFi or dongle, e.g. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9184989

For reliable IPTV you need a minimum of 8-10 mb speed and that's at peak times when the world and his yappy dog are all online streaming or playing games etc. so until you know what's actually available at your chosen accommodation it's impossible to advise.

If you're renting from British owners then they ought to be able to rell you what's there.

You need to find out if there is internet, if there is then what kind, is it fibre. The little dongles are OK but Netflix goes through a LOT of data per hour, around 3GB an hour in high quality so a dongle with 30GB data allowance would only give you about 10 hours viewing time before you need to buy another 'top up'

We use an Amazon Fire stick. But you MUST have a VPN or smart DNS in order to convince the BBC and ITV that you're in the UK and not in Spain. If you search this forum for VPN and/or smart DNS then you'll find hundreds of tips about how to get these up and working. But as others have said, first check with the villa owner as to what is there in terms of internet and TV connections.

Pretty much depends on your usage how long it lasts. I would suggest watch SD rather than HD. I have used Firestick whilst on holiday using a MiFi. 30GB was more than enough for two weeks viewing. Cost to top depends on where you buy. If OP is here for 3 months might want a contract? Data only can be quite cheap. Not really suitable for long term use, but OP is on holiday and how often would they want to watch TV?

Another option is Amazon Prime which can be viewed via a laptop / streamed to a TV.

I would suggest OP could download some films soaps before they go to watch in Spain.

Thank you SO much everyone for your kind advice which has been most helpful 🙏 we are renting for 6 months so it would be nice to at least watch the news and some tv/movies.

Have a wonderful weekend 😊

Not so. 2-3mb is more than sufficient to stream SD quality tv.

You may be surprised how many English language programmes are on Spanish tv. Just set the tv to English as the primary language.

I agree, when we were on Movistar ADSL it never went over 2.5mb and it was OK most of the time with some acceptable buffering at times.

I would recomend an android box rather than amazon etc, many more apps avalible - just the same as your phone.

alot of non-paid apps for watching tv / movies too..

If you are getting a Firestick you would be better to get the 4K one . Its well worth the extra few quid

No need to pay a monthy fee. Get a Kodi box and watch youtube videos on how to set it up.
