Re: re registring uk car
Hi,
There have been a number of posts about this, but a simple answer is it costs around 600 euros to do plus change your headlights. Dave |
Re: re registring uk car
If you have owned the car for more than 6 months in the UK and you register it in Spain within 30 days of registering on the padron at the town hall you should pay no taxes at all.
You will need to have it IVA'd (MOT) and fill some paperwork though. As mentioned above you'll need some work on the headlamps, and if you use a gestoria to do the work it should cost you around 600 euros or so. |

Re: re registring uk car
I've just registered another UK car here, a Peugeot 306 estate, 6 years old and it cost over 800 Euros. That was with 2nd hand headlights for 50 Euros instead of 265 Euros brand new.
I'm a long-term resident so had to pay the importation tax, if you're just moving with your car, apply for a residence card, empadronamiento and within 30 days apply for exemption of the importataion tax. It took me over two weeks and six trips into the big city. Not a job for the impatient or non-Spanish speaker! Here's a write up I've posted, hope it might help. http://spain-travel.suite101.com/art..._cars_in_spain |

Would it be possible to get the headlights done in the UK first, and if so any ideas how much it would be? Also you mentioned that the car would need current IVA, would a current MOT from the UK suffice  or do you have to have an IVA done in Spain when you arrive? Thanks all! :) Chris XXX |
Re: re registring uk car
Hi chrisw,
If you can buy the lights in the UK then you would need deflectors as the dipped beam would dazzle oncoming cars !!!! Should be cheaper to buy in Spain and they will conform to the "quirky" Spanish laws. The british MOT is not valid here in Spain, except for holiday makers who will return to the UK with their cars within 180 days. Dave |
