Re-registering car
 

Hi good people.

Has anyone used a company to re-resister a UK car in Spain? I am not confident to do this myself and see on the web several companies offering services. One called "Holmes Consulting" from Marbella/Malaga but I cant find out much about them - Has anyone used them before?

Also what companies have others used and what was the service like.
I am in the Valencia area so something closer to me preferred but perhaps not essential.

From what I understand, many of these companies normally do the registration exchange but then you have to get your vehicle ITV tested at you local ITV station within a certain time!

I have no personal experience of this company, but from their website they look fairly professional and they have been going for some years.

as I said somewhere else recently, I matriculated my car 12 months ago. It is a rigmarole if your language skills are poor but it isn't insurmountable if you stick at it and don't let the civil servants at the Hacienda grind you down. Trafico were fine, even the ITV station that refused to pass my car without new lights. They took the time to explain the problem to me and even found a guy who spoke some English - and my local main dealer told me that station is a nightmare and few locals use it.!!

All such companies are doing is the same as a local abogado but the problem is finding one that speaks any English, although abogado's usually charge less.

We just re-registered a UK plated LHD motorhome. We used a gestor in Denia who were very competent.
Their fees were 345 plus IVA.
All other costs were unavoidable if we'd done the job ourselves.
They key point was that they managed to achieve an absurdly low vehicle valuation, hence the "hacienda's wedge" was relatively bearable.

glad you found a competent gestor, I went to the abogado next door, he couldn't make head nor tail of the paperwork so sent me to his brother up the hill who is a gestor. he came up with 3 figures for payment to Hacienda and was still unsure if he had worked it out right.

Hence me doing it all myself, all I saved was his wedge, but gave me some satisfaction.
Granada Hacienda had 7 people there who deal with matriculating and car taxations - none at all busy, it was just like a UK civil service office except in a foreign language.

Probably because the Hacienda list of vehicles doesn't list motorhomes so it was probably classed as a commercial van, ignoring all the expensive modifications.

Hi

Motorhomes can have a European Certificate of Conformity which means that ITV/Hacienda will know exactly what to test or charge on the vehicle. If built before that, then there may be problems ahead as the song says.

They may have a Certificate of Conformity but Hacienda are unlikely to know what the original price is as there are so many custom built options available. There are certainly none specified on the official list of vehicles and boats etc.which they publish. Are you saying that the price paid is on the certificate?

With a new one, calculating the tax is easy as it is based on the actual invoice price paid.

I bought an EU COC from Hymer (70 euros)which saved me from paying an engineer's inspection fee of 150 euros.
There's no price information on it.

No there´s no price on it, BUT because the COC exists, then it should be in ITV / Hacienda´s book - but this is Spain LOL
