Exactly what make and model is it and what different devices do you have that need connecting?

Re: Re connecting a stacking stereo !
I would have to go down to the garage and look it all out, I am not quite back on my feet to go climbing for the other parts yet. From memory a Goodmans with twin tape deck player, possibly 5 cds player, power unit. I think there was something else plus a record player connected also. At his death it was connected to 6 speaker and had surround sound done too
If I could get put back together to be able to have decent sound that would be good.
PS I am heading to 'my' mountain mid July, just west of you I think ?

IF all cables are still as hubby left them then even without markings on them it should be relatively simple to get it wired back up again.
however (isn't there always) the surround sound has to be wired properly otherwise you will get a mismatch.

I disconnected it all and put all the cables in a box when I moved out. The stacking pieces I boxed up keeping the power unit out as I wanted it fixed if possible. Great repair man in UK fixed the unit nothing major so now I need to get all the bits of the jigsaw and hope !

You'd be surprised how many fairly old manuals are actually still available. What is the make/model no of the amp?
Connection is usually common sense and pretty obvious when you look at the back of the amp. Things which produce sound connect to input sockets which will usually be labelled the same as the switches on the front. Speakers are connected to output sockets. The trick with speakers is get all the polarities the same - each speaker twin wire cable will be coded in some way - some have different colour inner wires, some have a black line on one wire etc - make sure they are all connected the same, ie the marked wire to the red terminal for example. It doesn't really matter which way round as long as they are all the same (although the purist hifi nuts will probably disagree in practice it makes no difference). Lay out your speakers in your room according to the markings on the amp (ie RHFront goes at the right hand front of the room etc) and then Roberta is your mother's sister. Switch on and enjoy.

I am no techie expert but would happily have a go with you next time I am over if you think that would help on the basis that two heads might be better than one.

Re: Re connecting a stacking stereo !
On the back of the amplifier there should be all the necessary imputs identified, deck, cd player tape etc.
On the back of each of these should also be the correspodning outputs.
In most cases these will be coloured phono plugs so you just match them up.
The sound system will have outputs from the a,p to the master speaker and then from their to the sub units.
It is not really that complicated just needs a little patience.
