Default Rail worker sacked for showing too much enthusiasm

A sad story from our railways: Ian Faletto, an award-winning stationmaster at Lymington Pier, Hampshire, saw a shopping trolley on the railway lines, which had the potential to cause an accident. He requested that the power be turned off, and then jumped on to the lines in protective shoes to remove the trolley.

A week later, a district manager saw the incident while reviewing CCTV footage, and found that the power had not, in fact, been turned off. Mr Faletto was subjected to a disciplinary hearing and given the sack. He said: "I don't know how I am going to get by. Because I was sacked, I lost my mortgage protection and my pension. I will have to find a way, but the trains are all I know."
I accept that we may not know all the details, but the little I've seen here is perhaps the saddest story I've read in a long time.

They covered this on Radio 2 a few weeks back, it seems he broke several company rules regarding safety, failed to alert the train that was due and failed to even follow the recommended safety regulations regarding getting debris off a train line... I know its sad that someone lost their job but had things not worked out OK we would all be whining that Network Rail failed him by not fully enforcing the safety rules. Yet another case of damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Jobsworths are everywhere, there should be a company like Rentokill that gets rid of the because the are pests.

As if poor Ian has not got enough to contend with, having a surename (Faletto) that is very similar to a "service".

This is almost unbelievable !!!!......
and a total contrast in Sweden where it's very rare for anyone ever to lose their job no matter how useless they may be.

This guy is a signal operator who spends all his time surfing porn sites.
Apart from repeatedly knacking the works computer with loads of nasty viruses (from dirty women no doubt), he has brought the rail network to a complete standstill countless times, hi speed trains, freight trains, local trains and all, because he is too busy getting himself off on his porn sites to deal with the signalling.

Now get this,.....
Not only is he still in a job,but his Union is complaining that he should not even receive a warning for all the absolute havoc he's repeatedly caused and inconvenience to passengers stuck in trains for lengthy periods while he plays with himself on the porno sites.
