I just want to bake my child a bloomin cake but its impossible without icing sugar to make icing!!!!! Help anyone!?

Re S.R. flour look for a flour bag -- think pale blue has a picture of a sponge cake on it from mercadona very good or use plain and add baking powder also in mercadona

As you are in Alicante, try Icelands - I seem to recall that you have one fairly close to you.
We buy both SR Flour and icing sugar there. Even though we can get both at Mercadona, they are both MUCH cheaper at Icelands.

pick up caster sugar too..much better for cakes than the Spanish granular stuff.

I just use the normal spanish harina and add baking powder..works perfectly.

A pestle and mortar and a bit of elbow grease will give you icing sugar, it's nothing special.
It's expensive because the grinding has been done for you

I make a hundred cupcakes at a time, I would be there forever doing this!!! Whilst we are on the subject of cakes, does anyone know where you can get food colouring paste in Spain?

Re: Question for those who cook/bake!?
the paste is much better though, stronger colours & more economical in the long run
my daughter bought some online a little while ago - not sure if it was a Spanish company but I'll ask her when she gets home from school
