Qualifications in specialist subjects.
 

Hi. On the off-chance someone knows the answer to this tricky question:-

I'm an artist in polymer clay and have been teaching for many years. The subject is so specialist you could call it 'mine' although many of my students/readers are now improving on the techniques etc.

Only in Spain do people ask me where my qualification in a subject I developed myself is :D
How can I get my abilities/experience/books recognised as an 'authority' on the subject so that I can give recognised 'qualifications' to Spaniards who need them recognised especially if they want to pay for classes and put the classes through as expenses?

I looked at the British Polymer Clay Guild website but no mention of qualifications there.

Perhaps anoint yourself as The Spanish Polymer Clay Guild and set out your own prospectus. Then perhaps alloy yourself with the British crowd and there maybe strength in numbers? I suppose the same thing may apply to sugar craft, in some ways not too disimilar.

I just seen that there is a City and Guilds cert. in Sugar Craft. I note that Polymer Clay and food stuffs are not good friends. If you have contributed or published any work that would probably be of help in establishing expertise.

Thanks. I know of all these organisations and their members. Have taught many of them;-) I do have published work but I wondered if there was a central organisation in Spain to whom you could apply for recognition. I might chat to my Mayoress. She might know something.

Actually this is quite useful! It gives me an idea of the branches of education and how to write some kind of curriculum/certificate so as not to claim something I can't offer. Nor to do my own skills down :D
"Private vocational training" is what I guess I would be able to offer. Probably with "in polymer arts" as the subject. Something like that. Now to find out the Spanish translation!

Since it's the Spanish you want to impress, simply register as an official Artesano with your local Cabildo/Comunidad Autonomo.

Assuming that your work is of sufficient standard, etc. they'll provide you with a Carnet which would be good enough for most Spaniards as proof that you've been adjudicated in some way.

What an interesting discipline.

In this link you can find institutions in Spain that offer training and qualifications in polymers. You have the contact details for the person in change. I am sure they would have some ideas, and I bet they do speak English. If they did not and you wanted some help dropping them a line in Spanish or understanding their replies feel free to PM me.

Finally, if you want to say 'in polymer arts' that would be 'en Arte Polimérico'.
