Purple waterline around swimming pool!
Now for a bit of light relief if you have followed my Land Rover thread!
We fill our pool from a bore hole. We use the normal floating bomb to chlorinate and keep the water clean.
After 3 years we have a purple deposit which is around the waterline and lying on the horizontal surfaces below the water.
It is difficult to remove without scouring the grp pool.
Our bore hole water contains manganese among other stuff.
Could this be creating something like manganese chloride?
Any idea of a sensible way of removing it and preventing a future build up?
Don't want to empty and refill the pool as uses too much water so we keep it filled in the winter and filter approx 2 hrs per day.
Any chemists or experts out there?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Purple waterline around swimming pool!
Hmmmmmmmm this sounds like a case for Poolside Pete
Now lets look at the facts ,
Water is filled from a well and this contains Magnesium ! Furthermore owner keeps it topped up all the year !
Reckon its a case of Magnesium Plaque build up the solution is so easy pop down to a paint shop and buy approx 3 litres of water resistant Purple paint , drain the pool by approx 6" , then rub down the water area well ,and give 2 coats of the purple paint ,allow to dry and refill back to start position..
This will not cure the Magnesium but will hide the problem
