If you are thinking of Isla Canela then you should be aware that this is primarily a holiday destination and can be a bit quiet in the winter months. Also accommodation is mainly apartments which were built as holiday lets and therefore are not best for fulltime living e.g. smaller kitchens, lack of insulation etc. I know this is a rank generalisation and plenty will disagree. There are some substantial villas in Isla Canela.
Punta Del Moral is the old fishing village north of the Marina. Most of the houses there are original Spanish village houses - really great place if you want to live the local.
Ayamonte is a vibrant and busy small town all year which does not depend on tourism for its economy, which is primarily the sea. There are some picturesque houses in the centre in the Andalucian style and more modern houses of all sizes further out from the centre.
North of Ayamonte is Costa Esuri. A large urbanisation with mixed housing and a mixed population - 50% Spanish and 50% other Europeans. Unfortunately the 2008 crash came before the development was finished and the main developer went bust. Some of the urb is not finished but the people who live there tend to love the place. Prices can be very attractive as the banks sell off property recovered from the developer.
Hope this helps

Hi Mike

Thanks for the info, while we were there 2 weeks ago, yes we found Isla Canella busy on the sea front, we liked Punta del Moral (Atlantico Hotel Side), Although Beach was busy , but it was wide and wast, did not get a chance to go to the Village for Punta Del Moral on the other side of Marina, and we liked Ayamonte.

I guess it will require more trips to narrow down our search.

Regards
NR

Hi, You do not say if you plan to retire here or need employment- which will prove very difficult. This could have implications on your plans. Regards Keith
