Hi, I've just moved into my new house in Madrid and my relocation person is pushing me to take out health insurance so I can do the final registration. I have a NIE and I am the Director of a newly formed SL. I will be paying Social Security for myself, husband and another family member who will all be working and drawing a salary. Can anyone give me a general answer to the question, Do I need private health Insurance at this stage? I have an understanding that we need to be paying Social Security for a year before we can use the public health service, is that correct? We don't use the European Health Card agreement as we didn't move here from the UK (we are UK citizens).
I'll be searching for an accountant in the next couple of weeks but hoping someone can help with this.

Once you are contributing SS payments both you and dependents will be entitled to free health. You don't have to wait a year
