Price of installing a new swimming pool in Spain?
Hi all,
i am thinking about installing a pool for the first time and I want a sense of the cost involved.
Have you (or a friend) had a swimming pool installed in Spain within the last several
years?
if yes, what was the approximate total cost of your pool installation, the size of the pool, and what region?
cheers.

Not an answer to price but there are a couple of hurdles. Permission to build a pool and water to fill it up and keep it topped up. A lot of municipalities around us specifically do not permit using town tap water for activities such as pools, gardens and irrigating fruit trees. Our adjacent town switches water off at midnight and back on at 7. Not too sure how they police it and how they differentiate between a few pot plants and a garden.
if I had my time again , I would have had either a plunge pool or a hot tub if the electric supply was up to it.

I paid in excess of 10,000 euros in Alicante region.
There will be a huge range of prices e.g. depending on quality of pool you want, location and any issues with your site. Suggest you get one or more local contractors to quote.

Very ballpark - 8 x 4 - 10,000€.
As per above it is a huge decision - and remember unless you are very brave you can only swim comfortably a few weeks of the year may seem amazing but it is true. The water gets very cold very quickly during end September and does not heat up until June.

Hi all in our part of the valley there is a total ban on pool construction ,Unless it is above ground and constructed out of timber???Glad our pool was built before the total ban come in ,although i agree with spainrico that the water temperature drops quick,i would say weather permitting ( sun),at the moment the pool temp hovers between 24-26 d i usually swim from mid may to the end of september and a few occasions a week or two into oct but believe me it's a big challenge.I suggest a visit to the town hall who will let you know all the rules.

Now I am considered a 'seasoned expat' to the point that my solicitors (long term friends and I used to write articles for them) want to make a promotional marketing video together.

As others said, if you want something decent inground that's large enough for a swim then expect to pay anything from €10.000 upward. Cheaper options are above ground as el collado kid said. New trend and cheaper than a traditional pool would be an eco pool (organic pool) or basically a natural swimming pond. We have planning permission for a pool which we submitted with the house (just in case) but since it's only a holiday home and very pricey didn't end up doing it now.

I have no idea of cost to build one, heating it ... we had an Australian solar cover and could use the pool comfortably from April to October. The price of it I cannot remember, may have the paperwork somewhere. It was purchased in Alhaurin El Grande.

I don´t have a pool...but then again I live in a flat.....lol
Even if I had a house I still don´t think I would have one. Apart from the cost of installing it I would guess they need a lot of maintenance. And by the end of the summer you would be basically swimming in pool cleaning liquid I imagine. Then you need to cover it over the winter and get it all ready again the following spring.
Also as Spainrico said regarding central heating, when I came to Spain I imagined that you don´t need to have central heating. How wrong I was. In winter, sometimes it´s warmer outside than inside.
And most properties in Spain seem to have a "G" rating on the EPC...i.e. not very well insulated.
