Prescriptions

Can anyone explain to me what happens if a medication needs to be approved by the inspector prior to the doctor issueing a prescription.

Unfortunately you have to wait but you need to keep chasing or get a hospital consultant to issue the script.

Just about surviving is probably the best way to describe us at the moment. Graham has been in hospital again for the past 10 weeks because of a complication (caused by the original op) that they have tried to sort out by many different methods which have not been successful. They have said that he has to have another operation but is too weak so has been sent home to be stregthened up for an operation in a months time.

Thanks for the advice. Asked the consultant for a prescription which he happily provided us with. Took it to the chemist only to be told that I would have to get it signed by the inspector. I told them that it is impossible for me to leave my husband at home to go to the inspector in the nearest large town and they suggested that I ask the receptionist at the surgery to sort it out for me. Not easy as she is covering for our normal receptionist and to be honest she was struggling the other day just making appointments.

Seems to become more impossible by the minute.

Re: Prescriptions

You might want to speak to the consultant next time you are at the hospital, he might be able to help. Most hospitals have an in-house pharmacy.

I have never heard of getting an inspector to sign a prescription. Is there another farmacia you could try?

Not sure really but have been told about this "inspector" several times now by different people so know that they do actually exist. I think that they work in a similar way to the dental board in UK whereby when certain things are ordered the say so has to come from this source.

Re: Prescriptions

Thought that an update may help others in the future. There are several ways of gaining the inspectors approval on a prescription. Visit the inspector complete with the prescription and gain the signature and presumably the usual rubber stamp (immediate). Ask the receptionist at the doctors to send it internally to the inspector (4 to 5 days). Or get the doctor send it direct to the inspector via the computer (2 to 3 days).
