I am on two different blood pressure tablets and in UK paid prescription charges. In Spain they are prescribing the same things and I worked out that I pay 9.90 euro's for the same as I paid 20 pounds for in UK.

Someone else recently asked about insulin so I suggest that you do a search and see what the response was.

Hope this helps.

With a SIP card, and a prescription from the doctor, you pay about 10% of the over- the-counter price which in most cases is a lot less than the UK price.

We registered at the local doctors and was issued with a temporary SIP card which I understand will not be made permanent until I reach retirement age. The prescriptions I pay the going rate for, I understand that the going rate is kept low as the chemist charges cost for prescription drugs.

I have recently had to buy paracetamol and this has been expensive. I know Lyn says that she pays 80 cents but I paid about 4 euros.

I get my paracetemol & codeine from the UK
But I bought some anti cholesterol stuff here (Prevencor) and it cost a fortune, 50ish euros for 28 tabs

when you come here get an E106 from DWP which will entitle you up to two years free cover here.

Take it to the local dept of seguridad and they will send you a letter

Take the letter to your local health care place and you will get a temp card

Sounds easy doesn't it ;)

SIP card is similar to UK healthcard.

One thing though about asking questions of us on here about what things cost etc is the fact that it is not a country with one health system. Each area has different rules on what they offer to their nationals and what they offer to immigrants so be wary with what you are reading.

If you are retired, all healthcare and prescriptions are free, certainly in the Valencian community.

Medicines here in Spain is a lot cheaper than in the U.K.
I doubt if you will have any problem getting what you need and at a good price.

I seem to recall that Shergar stated he was retiring and coming out here, if that is the case, then ALL his healthcare will be free, as long as he gets an E121 and registers with the local clinic.
