Prescription entitlement
I am hoping to rent a villa in one of the Costa this year to use for about 3 months at a time with short breaks back home and was wondering whether my wife will still be able to get her free meds (we are both retired she has bipolar and she/I get attendance allowance ) Ad snipped

Re: Prescription entitlement
Hi and a warm welcome to the Spanish forum on BE. Myself and Fred James are the moderators for the Spanish forums whilst BEVS moderates Europe. Moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. This is so that members gain the information that they are looking for and find their experiences on the forums to be friendly and worthwhile.
Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderator who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are usually friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the issues of living in Spain. I hope that you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Re: Prescription entitlement
I would suggest it would be simpler to take sufficient meds for the duration of your stay and your EHIC card to cover any emergency treatment you may require.

Re: Prescription entitlement
Hi Missile I agree but as her meds are only prescribed max 2 weeks at a time that's not an option. Thanks anyway

Re: Prescription entitlement
I have never heard of prescriptions being restricted to 2 weeks. Perhaps if you explain you are going on holiday ask Doctor nicely he/she would oblige? Alternatively change your GP?
Anyway, if you search the forum you will find several posts on what one has to do to claim free medication in Spain.

Have you discussed it and any other possibilities with your doctor?

Re: Prescription entitlement
You may have to be very careful about the length of your stays each time, as if you are away for too long you MAY find your entitlement to free NHS treatment ceases, if you are in Spain for more than 90 days at any time then you might well be classed as a Spanish resident. Only people of UK retirement age are allowed to use the NHS for free if they aree resident in another EU country. No doubt you have already researched this, but I would advise care, particularly depending on the outcome of the June 23rd vote.

Re: Prescription entitlement
Hi re the prescriptions it depends what they are for. I have repeat prescriptions they are 2 monthly not 2 weekly. When I come over for 3 months I ask for extra and explain why, never had a problem. Of course it could be that from what you say your wives drugs could be restricted due to what prescribed for or they could be classed as dangerous if issued in larger quantities? I would first speak to your doctor/practice and explain your plans. Maybe they can't issue more but tell you how to get medication on the EHIC as it does cover on going necessary treatment for your stay, there must be a way round it. As for the 3 month thing and being removed from NHS register, that is a bit like the Spanish 90 day rule no doubt you could write the list of those it has happened to on a postage stamp. But again and as mike says if you explain your plans to the practice it won't be an issue as you are telling them you will be remaining a UK resident but going in a long break. I am doing just that at the moment.
