Quite right. It's the modern wonder drug but there can be severe side effects and they all seem to have different effectiveness depending on the individual.

Once you've found the right one for you stick with it.

I'm now down to 58 for LDL which is about -1 on your Richter scale!

For JDR - it controls cholesterol.

ah - I misunderstood - I thought you meant that you usually get free meds & were shocked at having to pay this time

Yes, but given the choice between a stroke and less chance of a stroke, I dont really care.

I suspect opinions are mainly divided between those with high cholesterol and those without it

Well the generic ones are cheap. €2 a month is hardly expensive!

Interesting that one Mitzboy as that is exactly the same one that is prescribed for my wife with no probs whatsoever. Didn't realise that they were that expensive as she gets them free being a pensioner.

I had to buy some pills for my blood pressure the other day (€32.50) but when I eventually got the prescription from the Doctor I took it to the pharmacy in Oliva where I bought them - having kept the receipt - and got my money back.

I had a heart attack (it stopped) which was incredibly painfull. It felt as though my heart was being ripped out of my body!
Ramipril & Atrovastatin are preventing me from having another one. So I say "Let's hear it for statins"

Include me in that, unfortunately. But at least all medicines are free here for everyone.

I am so out of touch with things like this in the UK. Have the prescription charges been dropped?

In Wales, they have been for several years, Scotland is next. The English (of which I'm one) are subsidising the rest of the UK! Previous to that, as I'm taking a daily cocktail of pills, I used to pay an annual charge, I think it was £85, and that covered everything. So that's no big expense.
Edit. Just looked it up, the annual charge is £104, so £2 a week is affordable for most, I'd have thought.

I used to do that too as it made a lot of sense, it was 85 or near abouts then and even though it has risen it is still a good deal if you are on a few different meds.
