Prejudice in the rental market
Now I don´t know if this has been discussed before but here goes. Would you, dear reader, have a preference who you´d rent out to ? Brits, or Spanish or even Dutch for that matter, which race or age group would you prefer?

Re: Prejudice in the rental market
At the risk of being slated, I would like to admit that I would be very predudiced when renting out a property of mine.
I would only consider renting out to a tall, blonde, tanned ,Scandanavian female, aged between 20 and 24 and her sister.
Regards,
JLFS

I'm not sure I ought to share my prejudices but we rent a number of properties out and we've had major problems with all but one of them.
We do it 'properly', that is, via Spanish agents and so the tennants have contracts etc.
All have failed to pay rent, electric, water, IBI etc. We have even had to take one tennant to court to get them evicted.
The one 'good' tennant was from South America - they have had to move on, unfortunately, as they can't get a work permit here and with jobs tight, can't even work for 'black' money! But they've paid all the bills and left the place spotless.
OK, so I'll tell you who have been the most problem (now you've read this far). We rented two flats (separately) to Gitanos (gypsies) - they paid no bills, no rent and completely trashed the flats! We are now under threat from 'the family'.

I'd go for a Congolese Pygmy myself as long as they have the coin to pay the rent.

Re: Prejudice in the rental market
I often wonder if people use the word "prejudice" in the wrong context.
"Prejudice" is defined as "prejudgment: making a decision about, before becoming aware of the relevant facts of, a case or event."
However, many people who have had bad experiences with certain types of people on a regular basis, or have seen others experience these bad experiences, can then consider themselves "well informed" of the "relevant facts".
If that is the case, they are no longer prejudiced against those types, they are experienced and capable of exercising good judgement and therefore within their rights to exclude types of people for good reason.
There is a big difference between the two!

However, in reality the world is much more complicated than this and noone is capable of summarising into a few general sentences.
Maybe a better title for this thread would be "What are your experiences of renting out to different nationalities?"

We have had bad experiences with Spanish and British. Only difference is that you can't easily get the spanish out as they know every trick to use as to why they should stay

That would not be a problem, I would not turn out 2 ladies in distress, we could come to some arragement. They could always put on their little white pinnies and clean and iron for me (while my wife goes to visit her family).

Re: Prejudice in the rental market
The only prejudice I have come across (as a renter) is Landlords who want long term Tenants and then put a load of second hand rubbish in their apartments and wonder why I get arsy when there are holes in the curtains, the place stinks, there is patio furniture in the dining and living room BUT THERE IS A WONDERFUL VIEW so what am I worried about??? Well perhaps after a day in the office it would be nice to come home to a reasonably comfortable home. We have one now but they are certainly few and far between!
