not really!

in my house with a teenage girl & nearly teen, the favourites are Bisbal, Baute, Nena Daconte to name 3 - so pop -type stuff

and tons of others whose names I'll ask when they wake up

I've always liked Nelly Furtado & she has an album out in Spanish - this is the single from it

http://www.latinaroom.com/video/Nell...e-Hands-Up/107

the English version lyrics are on the screen

here they are in spanish http://www.metrolyrics.com/manos-al-...y-furtado.html

her pronunciation is a little suspect occaisionally - but then she's of Portuguese descent & from Canada

who do you like?

I told my spanish teacher that i was trying to improve my spanish by music and was told it was very difficult as the lyrics were to poetic.[I] thought she would be pleased I was trying to broaden vocabluary and pronounciation
I dont think Im ever going to crack it sometimes as I try ssssso hard.
I dont know if its because im older but im stuggling . Any tips or advise will be grateful as I really want to learn so much

there is some poetic licence in music, of course, but I reckon it helps you get the rhythm - and it can't hurt your vocab

maybe stop trying so very hard, but yes, it's true that it gets harder as you get older

the best advice is to try to use whatever you have just learned - make a point of it

just open your mouth & go for it - no-one expects you to be perfect straight away

if ever

it depends how much you put into it

& depending upon what you call basic communication - a simple conversation, managing in shops or winning a phone battle?

one hour a week lesson & no practice - maybe never

one or two hours lessons - at least an equal amout of studying at home - and practising every time you meet a spanish person - even just buying bread in the supermarket - a few months for the first two of my examples

the spanish might not 'flow', you won't have a lot of tenses (maybe only 1!), but you should 'survive'

when I was first learning I took lessons 4.5 hours a week - studied at least that on my own & tried to speak spanish as often as possible, watched spanish TV & listened to spanish radio

by the end of a year I could manage in most situations & even won an argument with telefonica on the phone!

my spanish wasn't perfect - still isn't - but it was more than enough for survival, and I was even helping friends out at school etc

oh - & I was 43 when I started learning

Back to the music

the last holiday I had in Spain before moving here, this was being played all the time on the radio. I bought the CD and listened to it a lot in the next 2 or 3 months while I was planning my move out here. When I listen to it now I still get that feeling of excitement and butterflies in my stomach.

Thanks this song I learned the construction para que + subjuntivo.

Hey! I didn't mean it like that! ,

As to learning spanish, like lynnxa I tried to watch/listen as much spanish tv and radio as possible while learning. Getting the opportunity to practice meaningful conversation isn't always easy though, depends where you are. I still sometimes read out loud to myself (don't tell anyone!) because I think it helps my pronunciation. My biggest problem now is that even though I know what I want to say, the words sometimes get stuck on the way out.

Often I have wanted to converse and cant think of a word or even the sentence structure.
Then I get home and think I should have said and the words and sentence comes to me.
I think I get word blind when slightly anxious or nervous

he a good song from 1992 from the flim Jamón, jamón

I had to concentrate on reading the sub titles instead of looking at the picture and listening. Miss Cruz totally owns this film but ALL the acting is excellent. The raw passion of the main characters holds the viewer's attention throughout. Jamon Jamon is only Penelope's second movie according to her film biography but she shows NO inhibitions in her portrayal of a young passionate woman seeking love and fulfillment. Even her mother and potential mother-in-law are steaming with sexuality and seeking passionate liaisons. The potential father-in-law also gets a bit of titillation from the character so beautifully portrayed by Miss Cruz. over 18 for you yong kids SEX Sceen ...

"Piensa En Mi"

Si tienes un hondo penar,
piensa en mi.
Si tienes ganas de llorar,
Piensa en mi.

Ya ves que venero tu imagen divina,
Tu parvùla boca,
Que siendo tan niña,
Me enseño a pecar.

Piensa en mi
Cuando sufras
Cuando llores también piensa en mi.
Cuando quieras quitarme
la vida, no la quiero
Para nada
Para nada me sirve sin ti.

Piensa en mi
Cuando sufras
Cuando llores también piensa en mi.
Cuando quieras quitarme
la vida, no la quiero
Para nada
Para nada me sirve sin ti.

" It thinks About Mi"
If you have a depth to suffer, it thinks about my.
If you have desire to cry, It thinks about my.
You already see that source your divine image,
Your parvùla mouth,
That being so young,
I teach myself to sin.
It thinks about my When you suffer When you also cry thinks about my.
When you want to clear to me the life,
I do not want it For nothing For anything it serves to me without you.
It thinks about my When you suffer When you also cry thinks about my.
When you want to clear to me the life, I do not want it For nothing For anything it serves to me without you.
