Default The power of prayer

Fabrice Muamba says his survival is a miracle

On the morning of the game I prayed with my father and asked God to protect me - and he didn't let me down. I am walking proof of the power of prayer."
Of course if he really believes that he is walking proof of the power of prayer then he must also believe that if he hadn't prayed he would have died. Not a nice God this one...

Well the god could have prevented him having the heart problem in the first place Still it may have been god that put the heart specialist in the crowd

I don't think they've been in a long time.

Let's see, how many bloody horrible wars has mankind fought in the name of god?

And that sums up the problem with religion - just mans greed and jealousy wrapped in the justification of a god!

Well as long as it does I suppose.

Many of these people are dead because of prayer. Faith is a bad thing.

Faith on its own doesnt work. "The lord helps those who help themselves" apparently??!!? You could also argue that if there is a better world in the afterlife, then your god/faith is fast tracking you there??!

No,no,no!!!! Sorry, but wars are man made. Doubt that God is very happy with them!
Yes, you're correct about man's greed & jealousy.
The biggest risk God took was in giving us free choice; for some, that means not believing.
If He steps in to prevent a child getting run over for instance, or prevents someone getting cancer, then He has to do it every time & for everybody in the world where there is a risk of an accident or death. He'd be pretty busy!!!! And we would be like robots.

I've always believed it's easier in life if you believe in something, for most people that means a God of some sort, and some means of 'praying'.

Even if you just pray for the survival of Glasgow Rangers, it's still a belief to cling on to. Or what's wrong with hugging a tree? Or standing at Stonehenge in a shroud? Or talking to dead people in a cemetery?

If you believe in nothing, what's point of being?

There are those who believe God is manmade - but religion certainly is, its a load of mumbo jumbo nonsense!! However, my belief in god is my own business, nothing to do with religion and I dont discuss it!

Sorry, but you shouldn't be blaming God. What happened to him was a personal experience which may have made him see life in a totally different way.
That's the power of prayer.
Otherwise, each time we pray with a shopping list of things we'd get instant healing.
There'd be no point to life in that case. We could sin like mad & then repent in prayer.........till the next time!

Which makes talking about God (christian or otherwise) and religion pointless

So if you don’t believe in religion abound, in belief and faith and holy ground,
Fair enough you’re allowed your choice, your view, ideas and personal voice,
But for millions who lay at deaths dark door, for the sick and the weak and the lost and poor,
Let them pray for a little relief; allow them something like belief.

For when it is all is done and said, who can speak for the dead?
You my friend with scribe so bright, with tales of war and such delight,
Or the Lord our God whom many believe, the many in grief, the many who grieve,
Let’s leave to them to decide I say, to not believe, or believe and pray....
