Power of attorney?
I am in the UK and cannot travel to Spain for medical reasons. We need to sign at the notary on Friday 15th and would like to arrange power of attorney for my wife to sign on my behalf. My solicitor insits I must be present in spain to aurrange this in front of a notary.
Anyone been able to arrange power of attorney from the UK? Anyone recommend a solicitor who might be able to e mail document for me to sign? Anyone know if power of attorney arranged by my UK solicitor would be accepted by notary in Spain? |
Re: Power of attorney?
You can do POA from the UK but there is a set format. To be accepted in Spain it has to have the Hague Apostille. This company is excellent, used them a few times.

We had to go to the UK notary with all the documentation, passports etc. he then signed everything but it then had to go to London before being sent on to Notary in Spain. |
Re: Power of attorney?
Many thanks for your comments. This is what my spanish solicitor told me yesterday! It would have been nice if she had mentioned this two month ago
My solicitor in UK has prepared the document but no way I can get the document to London and back and over to Spain by Friday 15th. Why oh why do they make everything so difficult in spain? |

Yes, in theory you are correct. I could have it couriered to the FCO in London for 09.00 Monday. If they endorsed the document immediately and I paid for the "Swiftair" return service it could be with me on Tuesday and I could then courier to spain for delivery on Wednesday.

Re: Power of attorney?
Sorry to reverse the question/hijack, but today I learned my 94yo mother might be having an operation in the UK; I think I'll be there in time, but how easy/quick is it to arrange power of attorney (if she wants me, that is:eek:) in the UK?
