Porteria gifts/tips

We've recently moved to Barcelona. The other day I noticed that our porteria seemed to have gotten a few gifts from other residents in the building. Does anyone know what the general practice is?

Yes from what I've seen Spaniards are big on giving gifts or a Xmas bonus for anybody they employ. From a box of chocolates, to big gift hampers

I was at tennis the other night, and all 10 kids in the class next to me had a little present for their tennis coach. Quite sweet

One of the most important people in my life is the postman, and he gets a Christmas gift every year, in cash. Pool maintenance gets a box of chocolates and there is a sliding scale for the others.

And I've just reminded myself of the doctor, he's going to get a decent bottle of wine.

Any idea on what's an acceptable gift/amount? I don't want to be cheap nor do I want to be stupidly lavish. I've no idea what's appropriate.
