Default PO Boxes in Costa Blanca

Hi you Guys

We are moving to Spain next week and would like to open a PO Box in Spain before we leave the UK. Can anybody help please?

Wher on the Costa Blanca, must be a few hundred kilometers of the Costa Blance, so answering about one area would be of little use. In generql ther are two types, on at the local Correos, and the others the commercial Mail Rooms, Post rooms that have been set up. I doubt that you would be able to open eiother from the UK, but I may well be wrong.

Also you may find that there are no PO boxes available. We asked both in Castalla and in Onil but none available. We have to collect our post from over the counter. Any letters not collected are simply left on the counter at the side for anyone to browse through the pile

Thanks for the response, allbeit not very encouraging. We will be living in the Alicante area and therefore one would have thought that in a major city one would have been able to find some facility. Does this information help with a more definitive answer?

Thanks a mil.

Would have thought you would have no problem finding a PO box in that area.

When we moved here, we had to show NIE and Padron - in person. We tried to get a box before hand so that we could set up a redirection service but were told that we had to do it IN PERSON.

Not very helpful I know - sorry

You can have a PO Box ('Apartado de Correos) or even a 'Lista de Correos' (where the P.O. holds your mail), but any official document must and will be sent to your registered physical address. So if you don't have a post box nailed to your gate, you won't receive the mail from the ayuntamiento, the judge, the tax people or, of course, the letter informing you that your house is illegal and will be knocked down on Friday.
Which is a bit of a problem.

Which is why most mail rooms (we use MAILBOX) will accept these letters on your behalf, sign for them and then put them in your mail box.

We get a very good service with letters like this, parcels from TNT, UPS etc. etc.

Only if your official address (the one on your padrón, your NIE etc) is at Mailboxes Ltd. Which means that you live there...!
Of course in smaller pueblos, the postman knows the score, but you will miss mail if you don't have proper home delivery and an approved mail-box nailed to your gate.. it won't be his fault either...

This is simply NOT the case for me - I live in Ontinyent (which is rather large).

At the town hall they have 2 addresses for us - where we live and where we get mail.

Our padron shows the address where we live yet they have written to us at our mail address.

Ah well,... let's not fall out over it ...

You can have the option of a fiscal address (Dirección Fiscal) and a postal address (Dirección Postal) if you have a PO box, or just want your mail to be delivered somewhere other than your home address, especially if you're living in the Pueblo, where no mailman ever ventures

HI,

im in Bocairent, and my post office too. will put mail in my post box, wether it has the Correos address, or my 'home' address, they have even put it in when a Christmas card came addressed to 'the farm' the National park, Bocairent!!!!! I think they often go just by the name!

they are really good at ours

though I do hate how UPS, DLH etc..... cant deliver to them
