plaster or paint sealer?
 

I have a cave which has an open fireplace

I have put an Estufa in with the metal tubing going up the chimney
then bricked up around it however the original part of the chimney that can still be seen, does not look very attractive

I have chipped off all the soot but the original plaster is still brown and discoloured

I have tried various ideas, like putting yeso over it but once it dries the brown still shows through

Then I tried using masonry paint but again the staining still shows through when it has dried

What I think I need is a plaster or stain sealer which I know you can get back in the UK

But can you get it here?

I am in England so this probably won't help but my husband gave our open fire place a lining of fire cement.

Its probably the sap from the wood that has been burnt, unibond then painting may cover it,
The closest thing here is cola blanca para madera.

we have used stain blocker, I know we took some from Uk but am sure we have bought it in spain too, will ask OH when he gets in.

Hi ya,
OH says we did find it out there but can't remember what it was called or where we got it, but he did suggest a Dulux centre if you have one near you as you should be able to get one there, I know they have a website for spain, so you could have a look. If not go to yur local ferreteria and ask if they have anything that would do the trick, although we lent some to spanish speaking friend who has lived and worked in spain forever! and she didn't know it excisted. OH suggests if you can't find anything try painting the area with a quick drying oil based gloss paint , when that is thoroughly dry that should seal it before using emulsion over it. why don't you stain block it?


Get some upva, water it down and paint it on, let it dry then paint over the top.
