Sipping a Mojito by my pool after a hard day in the saddle does it for me.

Is that a SKY dish I see ? You wouldn't want to be missing Corrie whilst immersing yourself in the " real " Spain.

Cuthbert.... Just to clarity, and I am not looking for to rent out to anyone wherever we buy, it will only be used by family and friends on the run up to retirement and then as a semi permanent retirement home following that, I love the States as does my wife, but I think only the very rich can afford to jump through all the "investment" visa hoops to find a way in for more than six months, so we will have to make do with long term letting during the winter months.

I am not ashamed to admit I live on the Costas, where it is not hard to find spanish culture. You may be surprised to learn not all Brits drink in the Red Lion. This establishment is more to my taste >

it is owned by a school friend of mine.

Not many bars in Spain with views like St. Petes....none with menus like that either if you took a peep. Gulf of Mexico has some of the best beaches in the world

I did take a peep and my quote was taken from their web site. Would you want to have a meal surrounded by 13 screens showing american football during happy hour? I am sure Florida has many better establishments.

As he said, each to their own.

I know there are some ex-pats around Naples, Florida where we bought but have never met any close by. There is an Irish pub/restaurant (very good food!) but it mainly attracts Americans who want to get back to their Irish roots:lol: Mostly Canadians or North Americans who own around us, good thing is no-one is allowed to rent shorter than 6 months.

I wouldn't want ten screens of sport but I guess there will be plenty of room outside on the deck:D

Have heard of Brits opening pubs around Orlando on Florida forums, most Brits seem to settle there, not sure why!

I have nothing against Florida. I know there are many nice places on the keys. My comments are a tounge in cheek response to the Costas is just like South End on Sea BS.

I found it ironic that the establishment quoted sounded like the US equivalent of the Sol Beach Bar in Benidorm ........... It has a beatiful view too.

a common language ?
a common drinking habit ?
birds of a feather ?

as you indicate, the GDY's have so little history that they have to cling on to the belief they came from Ireland. Not sure if Obama tried to make out he had Irish ancestry, but most other presidents have done so and visited to cement that belief, no matter how tenuous

I presume many came to Florida for Disney, liked what they saw and bought into the last boom. It certainly helps marketing your property for rental if it's near massive tourist attractions.

I prefer the coast. Some lovely breezes coming in off the Gulf and, of course, those magnificent beaches. St Pete is a nice small city as well.

Personally I find Florida too hot and humid in the summer and besides,it's the cricket season in Blighty.

I rent a place in Port Andratx most years as well - it's on my favourite Spanish island.

Certainly none where they still watch Coronation Street in an English-themed bar with English beer.
Here's my local when I'm home.

Everything back up and running the next day after a bit of a clear-up.
