Unfortunately there are too many people like you say who are - well gullible is not the best word, eager to believe is probably the best way. They hear what they want to hear, and I'm afraid not everyone will have asked those mental questions as you did, instead they are already mentally decorating their new home and planning their first barbie! My original point is that these types of programmes showed that you didn't necessarily have to be on a high income to be able to afford property in Spain. This is true, and with the favourable exchange rates at the time, it was relatively easy to do and very enticing for many I'm sure. However, the ability to buy is only one component of the story. Living here and having to find a sustainable income is a lot different, and I'm afraid to say that I've seen too many who didn't make that mental leap - or at least didn't give too much thought to it - when watching those shows. So we saw here a massive influx of Brits, and now we are seeing them peel away (no pun intended). Interesting footnote: the couple who appeared in one of the earlier Place in the Sun shows and feature in the book who moved to the Costa de la Luz are now back in Blighty |

[I]Its also interesting that a large number of Indians are moving bact to India for a better quality of life and better child education!!
Here I am butting in from Portugal, but I visited India in the winter, and I couldn't understand how Indian people with a house to sell in England and a pension didn't sell up and go and live like kings there as a lot of Brits we met have, renting annually and living 6 months in winter in constant 80F making side trips to exotic places with the driver and car they could afford to hire for 3 or 4 days for the price of a London taxi. |

We are not all like that.....
OK rant over.....sorry, don't mean to offend. You, like me, are obviously planning ahead carefully. I recall a TV prog where two couples were heading for Spain to set up in a business, a B&B I think. They packed up ridiculously quickly, and then one of their vans blew up not very far into France. The relationships weren’t helped by the fact that one out of each couple were ‘exes’ either. By the time they eventually reached Spain the couples had completely changed their plans. So that idea lasted 3 or 4 days…

" I have a suspicion it’s a question of ‘couldn’t crack it in the UK’ so let’s ‘have a go in Spain’."
I think your right, and I will say that if you cant make it in the UK then you have absolutley ZERO chance in Spain, Ive had over 20 years in business in the UK ,successfull 95% of the time, now in business in Spain and finding it very difficult, I think one of my mistakes is to do everything above board!! as most competitors dont!! Hi, yes people do seem to believe the dream but why not. The UK seems to be getting sadder by the day. I say this in anger at what our leaders have done to my homeland. But I must say that in the region of Denia where I live, there are plenty of Brits, but in the fifteen years I have been here only two have gone back to the UK and that was through health problems. Admittedly most here are early retirees and have pensions.

[QUOTE=andyrich666;6648582]People in the UK are badly educated from day one, I live on a horrible estate where all people do is phone up the council, phone the police, phone the tax people etc etc, The goverment has allowed and caused this to happen, people dont want to intergrate in the UK anymore, if they see someone doing better (keep up with the jones's syndrome) or they take a dislike too all they do is get on the phone and grass them up or report them for this that and the other.
I know the nosy the type.Ive had my dole stoped a few times aswell. |

You can bet your bottom dollar that you live in a place in a street in Spain and what people get up to is down to them, they will have there own thoughts on the matter but will still acknowledge you and most of them just get on with life as people should.
