Most UK TVs will not pick up terrestrial anlogue signals in Spain - you will get a picture but no sound, as this works on a different frequency. However, you can get around this by buying a Spanish terrestrial digibox (assuming that you have terrestrial digital reception where you are). The TV will also work fine for satellite reception of course, if you can live without Spanish terrestrial television (which is dire anyway, unless you're into chat shows and pornography).

I think your advice is a little misleading You can recieve a Spanish picture on a UK TV You will not get sound "Unless" you buy a Spanish Video recorder then you will get sound and Picture. There are some great TV programmes on Spanish TV (you must watch the crap after midnight) during the day there are some very interesting news and daytime TV. You will of course have to understand Spanish.

Isn't that what I just said? So, no it's not misleading at all. By that definition, your information is also misleading, as it could also read "Unless" you buy a Spanish digibox then you will get sound and Picture. . Either way, you have to buy new Spanish equipment.

I guess that's just a matter of personal opinion. In my opinion the programming is far inferior to what you get in the UK, and this is not just due to the language difference. My wife and her father speak perfect Spanish (being Spaniards and all) and have the same opinion. I don't really watch TV during the day much, but in the evening it's not that great (and I'm not just referring to the crap after midnight). What really amazes me about much of the daytime TV though is how they manage to string out chat shows based entirely on celebrity gossip. They spent 3 days solid talking about Charles and Camilla's wedding and discussions on Big Brother seem to be on a continuous loop.

You can get sound by using a UK tv and a UK vcr - you watch the channels through the VCR. We do this all the time.

Personally I think Spanish tv has gone way down hill and I'd agree with peejay in that most of daytime tv is dire. They don't seem to have chat shows, more like "shout shows".

I thought channel 4 were good at milking big brother but they have nothing on telecinco when it comes to filling up the daytime tv slots.

As for evenings, TVE1 like to make a film last three hours due to commercials but I can't find any good porn

At least these days you have lots of channel choice.

Must try that again - tried a while ago with no luck. I'm not sure if it works with all UK VCRs though. Saying that, I've also got an old Spanish VCR that might do the trick.

We counted the adverts during a film once - 27 in a single commercial break!

I thought the lack of sound applied to older televisions. I never had a problem with my English TV working and that was 3 years ago now. I just had to retune it to the relevant European region and it was good to go. Same applied to the rest of my family and friends out there.

Some UK televisions do have an option that allows them to receive the sound signal in Spain. My JVC television is about 3 years old and unfortunately doesn't have that facility and I think this is probably still the case for the majority of televisions out there. You can get any television converted, but I'm not sure of the cost.
