The Welcome Inn is for introductions only not specific questions. I will move your thread to the Spain forum in order for you to gain the information.

Just another thing yes there are the various sizes of pipework as in the UK 15, 18 ,22 mm etc . However UK pipe fittings don't fit I found that out as I was advised they did . I did some work and found out UK fittings do not fit or rarely do because one is measured inside diameter and the other outside diameter I can't remember which is which. So don't use UK fittings in Spain buy local.

I found out as I had recently bought our Spanish house and water pressure was terrible. I got to know an English guy here who was a plumber in the UK. He told me problem was because most Spanish homes the mains feed the deposito and gravity feeds taps etc. He explained how to convert it to mains to feed taps and shower etc and the deposito for cuts to water supply. I had read something about pipes being described as 15 mm 18 mm etc but that UK fittings didn't fit. This guy said no they are fine as this was pre Brexit and I was mainly in UK he said just get British compression fittings etc and a good pressure reduction valve as you will need to reduce the mains pressure it's very high. So I bought all the bits in UK and next time we were over I set about following his instructions firstly cutting mains point near where it enters property and fitting pressure reduction valve. I said to wife I'm cutting water off to put this thing on shouldn't take long. I cut the pipe and fitting didn't fit mmmmmmm this was around 12:30 Saturday afternoon. So pipe cut didn't fit so no water everything closes Saturday 1 pm including ferreteria so we had no water until I could get to local ferreteria on Monday so I was in the dog house. Luckily guy there was really helpful and explained the bit about one being inside diameter measurement and other outside. Luckily he was able to adapt the most expensive bit I had bought the reduction valve and some of the other bits I had so I luckily didn't need to buy all the bits again. You live and learn as they say ;)

Re: Pipework

Hi,
I have renovated a couple of properties in Spain, I assumed that they would be the same as uk and brought the copper with me from the uk (pre Brexit).

I found immediately that there is 15mm, 18mm and 22mm, and you are better off buying it in Spain.

the one thing I would note is that older properties (pre 1985-90) have very thin copper pipes, whether it has deteriorated or was thin to begin with I do not know, but I found the slightest knock and you have a burst. It is better to replace all the copper from this era in your house.

The last apartment I renovated was a 1992 built apartment and it was standard 15mm copper of a decent thickness which was akin to U.K. quality copper.

good luck.

Al
