In my humble opinion, there is a better year round community and I prefer Pillar to La Marina. However, each to their own :-)

1000s of Expats in and around both areas. Just depends which you prefer swings and roundabouts to both.

Pilar de la Horadada is a small Spanish town in the south of Alicante province very close to the border of Murcia province. Nearby is the coastal resort town of Torre de la Horadada where it is populated with expats from all over northern Europe. Both towns are thriving year round although Torre is a lot quieter in the off season.

There are two La Marina's in Alicante province. One is a small coastal village under the jurisdiction of Elche near Alicante airport,(Alicante airport is now Alicante/Elche airport). It has a population of 2-3 thousand people.

UrbanizaciĆ³n La Marina is a very large sprawling holiday home area that comes under the jurisdiction of the village of San Fulgencio. It is home to mainly northern European ex pats with English being the predominant language spoken. The nearest coastal town is Guardamar del Segura.

Both these areas often get mixed up with their respective similar sounding names. They are about 40 Km apart with Torrevieja in between.

I would recommend you visit the coffee shop in front of the church.
