Pet passport health check.

Pet passport health check.
I notice from the defra site and others that apart from the rabies vaccination the only thing required to re-enter the UK with a dog from Jan 1st is verification of tapeworm treatment between 1 and 5 days prior to arrival.
I see no mention of the health check and fitness to travel, as per the section at the back of the passport, so I presume that this is no longer a requirement ?
Was it actually a compulsory requirement previously, as it has always been something that I had checked out and completed prior to travel on the presumption that it was ?
As far as vet bills are concerned I would have thought that the health check would have been a significant part of the cost when fully carried out, though I notice some vets do so while others don't bother and simply stamp and sign the book.
