Re: pet insurance
Pet insurance - another ponzi scheme.
Vet prices in the UK used to be pretty reasonable.
Then pet insurance became popular.
To start with, offer cheap premiums for pet insurance in order to get people interested. And for those initial subscribers the insurance really did seem to be worth the money.
Then as more people get insurance the vets realise that they can charge more for their services because more and more people are getting their pets insured.
Eventually the people that don't have pet insurance realise that the vet bills have skyrocketed (someone has to pay for that new X5, and everyone knows that vets are really the same as doctors so they're worth paying a hundred grand a year) so they (the public) reluctantly decide they have no choice but to follow the herd.
Now everyone has pet insurance, the vets can charge whatever they can get away with, and knowing that insurance will cover it they encourage pet owners to claim for everything possible.
Insurance companies realise they are not making as many millions in profit as they once were so premiums escalate.
Pet insurance is now very expensive in the uk but vet bills are so high that you just can't afford not to have any.
Maybe I'm just a cynical old git.

Our premiums (in Spain) were very reasonable and covered all our vet costs - so we were happy!
