Persiana making a tapping noise
hi there one of our shutters has just started making a rhythmic loud tapping noise when it is down either part way or fully. It doesn't happen all the time but can't leave it as we are going to be renting it out shortly (fingers crossed!) Have been reading up on this but only fraying cords are mentioned really. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and/or any recommendations of anywhere in Torremolinos who do such repairs (we are in England at the moment but due out this week). thanks for any help

Whilst you have it open, just check the cords/tapes and also look to see if anything is loose. |
Re: Persiana making a tapping noise
thanks - doesn't sound strange but does sound a bit scary. when I said tapping maybe it was misleading as it's more like corrugated sheeting banging away in the wind it's that loud! Don't think my OH would feel confident enough to have a look as we're the sort of people who open something up to have a look and end up with all the nuts and bolts catapulting across the room!

Micro-mercenaries from the planet xetox.
Just keep a dead fish outside each persiana, wear tin foil on your head and every time you hear the noise, run up and down the street screaming "oogly boogly!" at the top of your lungs. Before long, your worries will be all but a faint memory. |
Re: Persiana making a tapping noise
funnily enough I saw that suggestion on another Forum but I'm afraid it was unsuccessful - but thanks for the tip!

I solved the problem by buying some draught strip with an adhesive back and fitting it into the gap. You may have to cut it to size to fit. I was in UK a while back and bought it from B&Q but it should be available here I would think. |
Re: Persiana making a tapping noise
oh thanks that sounds like it might be just the job. probably a silly question but did you have to dismantle the box to do this or could you access it from without?

the persiana rolls up into a box which is partly outside the window - the join on one edge of the box was loose & whenever the wind was in a certain direction - & it only had to be a breeze really - it sounded like a machine gun going off in the bedroom!! all it needed was the joint being sealed edit... note to self...read all replies before typing - Michael74 has given the same reply :o |
Re: Persiana making a tapping noise
thank you. I am just about to ring OH who has just gone to spain today to do some jobs including getting someone to fix this as we're not very good at DIY unfortunately. Our box is actually inside the room - but are you saying part of it will be outside. sorry to be thick but I'm going to ring him in a minute and tell him about your replies and want to try and spell out to him what to do as it sounds like a trip to the Ferreteria might do the job instead of paying someone hopefully

I've noticed that the bedroom persiannas do not make that noise because in the channel there is fitted a rubber strip ( it looks like rubber) and this stops the noise, however the one that rattles does not have that noise deadening strip fitted - probably a cheapo job originally. |
