Pedal Cyclists

Can anyone please tell me if it is illegal to ride a pedal cycle without wearing a helmet in Spain

Well if it is, it's one of those that'll take a while before everyone's complying. Racing cyclists yes (mostly), tourists yes (quite often). Just sheer cyclists? I'd put it at 30% but then local cyclists are a bit few and far between up in these hills;)

The rule, at least when it came out, was the usual Spanish fudge. You must wear a helmet unless it's too hot. There!
These days, it's more down to how hard the caped crusader wants to fine you.

I have to confess I don't wear one - but then I rarely go on the road, since we have cycle paths to just about everywhere I want to go :D

Cycle paths:ohmy: They do exist (or should I say there is one) along Malaga seafront but I can't think of anywhere else around here!

There is one all along the main road from Velez-Malaga to Torre del Mar (Av Juan Carlos I), another one from the outskirts of Velez to Rio Seco, one that runs around the back of Velez new zone where all the new flats are to link up with Av Juan Carlos, and they are working on turning the old railway line from Velez to Ventas de Zafaraya into one which will be around 17km long if I remember rightly. Plus one along the Paseo Maritimo at Torre del Mar.

Just shows where my time is mostly spent! ....no, actually thinking about it every time I walk from the Nissan garage on Panoleta to El Ingenio it's alongside me :o Ho Hum!

When our school used to have cycling trips, NO ONE wore helmets and nothing was said even to try and encourage them to!

don't know about push bikes but motorcycles/scooters are required to wear helmet by law.
except many don't and never get stopped by police when driving the wrong way down a one-way street, on footpaths or jumping red lights, turning left/right at no left/right turns etc etc.

would be nice if the caped crusader stopped a few, but they are usually too fast for him.

I've seen some stopped. Not a very high percentage, but they do do it.

It doesnt matter if you are on the road or on a cycle path. If you fall of your bike and are not wearing a helmet then you are risking damage.
Wear it!

Mitzy has spoken in his stern voice so you must obey.:lol:

Seriously though he is right, so go out and buy a helmet a.s.a.p. and wear it do not hang it in the cupboard. In the UK we used to ride our bikes on a nature trail never on the roads and we found that everyone wore helmets for exactly the reason that Mitzy has given.
